Bill Alexander
Founding Attorney
Biography
Bill Alexander is a North Carolina native and a graduate of Davidson College and Wake Forest University School of Law. He founded and manages W.G. Alexander & Associates, an estate planning, elder law, and asset protection firm in Raleigh.
He is known locally for his Saturday morning iHeart Radio show, Asset Protection Today . In 2019, he co-wrote Money Secrets to share asset protection strategies and practical planning information.
Bill’s work was deeply influenced by his family’s experiences with traumatic brain injury, special needs, caregiving, dementia, charitable trust management, and nursing facility care. These experiences helped shape his focus on estate planning, tax planning, elder law, and special needs law.
He works with individuals, families, and business owners on asset protection, long-term care assistance, wealth transfers, tax planning, trusts, estate planning, trust administration, and probate.

Ashley Fox
Senior Associate
Biography
A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Ashley Fox graduated from North Carolina State University with bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering.
After graduation, she worked as a software engineer and Oracle database administrator for ABB, Inc., supporting the company’s custom electrical and mechanical transformer design software.
After ten years in software technology, Ashley entered the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2004. Her interest in working directly with people and families led her to focus on real estate, estate planning , estate administration , and elder law.
Ashley lives in Cary with her husband, John, and their two sons. She enjoys spending time with her family, catching up with friends, and amateur photography.

Thomas E. Alexander
Associate
Biography
Thomas Alexander is a North Carolina native who lives in Garner. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Western Carolina University in 2011 and worked for six years as a broadcast engineer in Raleigh and Greensboro.
Thomas later followed his father, Bill, into estate planning and elder law. He interned at W.G. Alexander & Associates while preparing for law school.
He graduated with honors from the Appalachian School of Law in 2021, passed the multistate bar examination, and became licensed to practice law in North Carolina that same year.
Thomas has completed intensive training in Medicaid qualification planning through ElderCounsel, now WealthCounsel. He is also a VA Accredited Advisor.
Outside the office, Thomas enjoys motorcycles, cooking, spending time with his family, and keeping up with his standard poodle.

Mariah D. McKinney
Of Counsel Fiduciary Litigation Attorney
Biography
Mariah has dedicated more than ten years to representing fiduciaries serving as executors, trustees, guardians, and decision-makers under powers of attorney.
She has negotiated out-of-court estate and trust settlements and represented clients in contested and non-contested court proceedings when litigation could not be avoided.
At W.G. Alexander & Associates, Mariah serves as of counsel and concentrates her practice on fiduciary litigation. She also remains a partner at Garlock & McKinney, P.C., which is based in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
Mariah describes herself as the “mountains to the sea lawyer” because she represents clients throughout North Carolina, including the mountains, Wake County, Topsail Island, and surrounding coastal communities.
Probate and Fiduciary Experience
Mariah previously served as a probate clerk in Wake and Buncombe Counties. In that role, she audited and approved estate filings, assisted attorneys, and presided over hearings as an ex officio Judge of Probate .
She also served as Assistant Legal Counsel to North Carolina Clerks of Court and their offices statewide through her work with the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts.
Mariah also represents her law partner in his work as Buncombe County Public Guardian and as president and founder of Fidelicare, Inc., a fiduciary services company that supports guardianships, special needs trusts, and other fiduciary arrangements.
